Junior Tennis Coaching at Merrow LTC

Autumn 2025 programmes are now available to book
All sessions are available to book for the full term. Hour sessions cost £8.00 or £8.50 and 90 minute sessions cost £12.00 or £12.75. We aim to have a maximum of 6/7 players per programme. Our Junior Tennis Coaching sessions are run by our Head Coach, Jorge Martin Munoz, former UAE Davis Cup Captain and Director of two tennis academies affiliated with the Madrid Tennis Federation, along with our team of experienced coaches. We are delighted to have programmes that all work towards continuously improving young players whilst keeping the fun alive in learning how to play.

Mini Red tennis is for 5-8 year olds, and helps them grow in their confidence on court. Using smaller courts and special red balls which bounce lower and move slower, this is an excellent way for younger players to pick up good technique at an early stage, have long rallies and play different types of shot. Mini Orange tennis is for 8-9 year olds, and uses orange balls which are slightly bouncier and faster than red balls, and helps players develop a rounded game whilst learning a range of techniques and tactics. It is great fun, and players can improve very quickly.

Mini Green tennis is for 9-10 year olds, and is faster and more demanding than mini orange groups, testing children as they improve their physical co-ordination and ability. Played on a full-size court, green players are developing more tactical skills, learning to make use of the extra space by constructing rallies and working on creating angles on the court.   Download a form to request a place on a group coaching programme

Yellow ball tennis is for ages 11+, and what is normally described as Junior Tennis. Using pressurised yellow balls, this is where players can further develop their technique and tactical application in tournament matches. More focus is placed on the mental side to help players understand how to 'perform'.  Download a form to request a place on a group coaching programme
These sessions are split into two groups:
      (1) Squad Training - Teenagers (14-18yrs). For players who enjoy playing socially and are looking to compete within the local club environment.
      (2) Performance Academy - Invitation Only. Selected players from various age-groups will be invited to join these high-performance sessions.

General Information.  Coaching sessions are reserved for members of Merrow LTC prior to the start of the term. Non-members can book once the term has started. However, when you book a place on a course, you will also be required to join the club. Junior Squad Training (Invitation Only)
The Junior Academy sessions are aimed at more experienced junior club (yellow ball) players who are committed to their tennis development.

Junior Performance Academy
These sessions will be by Invitation Only.
The High Performance Program aims to take players to ‘the next level’ through an elite squad atmosphere. A combination of hard work, commitment and motivation is expected by all athletes who are able to train both on and off the court. We hope Merrow will build a reputation for nurturing some top-level young British talent!

NB. All term time coaching sessions are non-refundable and missed sessions will not be allowed to be rolled over into other blocks of junior group coaching.
In the event that a session needs to be cancelled due to the weather, the coach will contact the group to notify them that the session is cancelled. Cancellation is at the discretion of the coach. No refunds are available but a credit will be available towards the next term of coaching.
